What is the relationship between an artwork and its maker? Can we confidently link the two, or do they diverge in meaning and intention? Join us for a keynote lecture by Stanford Art History Professor Alexander Nemerov, author of Fierce Poise: Helen Frankenthaler and 1950s New York, as he reflects on these enduring questions. Professor Nemerov will focus on the prints of Helen Frankenthaler, which were recently gifted to the Cantor Arts Center by the Helen Frankenthaler Foundation as part of a major exhibition on the artist’s work, to explore her groundbreaking legacy.
